BASIX - New Homes & Apartment Buildings

All new houses and apartment buildings are required to have a BASIX certificate completed as part of development applications. Efficient Living has completed in excess of 2500 new home BASIX certificates.

The Basix tool is divided into 3 main sections; Water, Energy and Thermal Comfort.

With in the Thermal Comfort section there is a Do-It-Yourself (tick-a-box style) compliance option. This tool does not assess your building design it simply sets insulation, shading and glazing requirements. At Efficient Living we are committed to offering our clients professional, accurate advice and solutions, as a result we do not offer a DIY service. DIY compliance is in most cases a far more expensive method of compliance.

To address the Thermal Comfort section of BASIX, Efficient Living provide their clients a thermal simulation on either BERS Pro or AccuRate and provide you with complete and accurate design advice.

Efficient Living also specialises in multi-unit BASIX for apartment buildings. Efficient Living has assessed over 3000 units and have an extensive knowledge of the multi-unit BASIX process.

"Our design had large amounts of glass to maximise the available view and included appropriate shading devices and thermal mass internally. We knew the building would perform well thermally but using the standard BASIX program we were unable to comply even using costly high performance windows and glass. Using thermal modelling provided by Efficient Living the building easily passed the BASIX requirement and the information enabled us create a building that performed even better thermally using simple design solutions."
